The Central Maine Babe Ruth 15-year-old All-Star team continued its impressive run of dominance, winning the state championship with a 6-1 win over Auburn on Sunday afternoon.
Many of the players on this team were apart of state championship teams at the 13-year-old and 14-year-old level. They also won numerous Cal Ripken age group state titles.
The win was part of a dominant weekend for Central Maine Babe Ruth, which also won the 13-year-old and 14-year-old state titles Sunday. The 13-year-team beat Auburn 11-6 in Augusta, while the 14-year-old team also beat Augusta, 5-2 in Fairfield.
For the 15-year-olds, Dan Pooler went 3 for 4 with a double and two singles. He scored three times and also drove in two runs for Central Maine, which advances to the New England tournament starting Aug. 2 in Newtown, Conn.
Ben Frazee pitched for innings to earn the win, striking out two batters. Jacob Trask added two innings of relief and struck out three, while Nick Mayo pitched the seventh to close out the victory.
"We try to shoot to be perfect," Central Maine coach Butch Cunningham said. "We give up a run and we are all like, 'ah, c'mon.' That is just their mental approach."
For the Central Maine 14-year-olds, Connor Garland had a single, a double and earned the victory. Brandon Nale added a single and a double, while Ben Smith had a single.
The New England Regional starts Friday in Westfield, Mass.
For Augusta, Brady Smith, Dameron Rodrigue and Andrew Brown all had two singles.
The Central Maine 13-year-olds went 6-0 in area and state tournament play. It will begin play in the New England regional Friday in Manchester, N.H.
Central Maine scored three times in the first inning, added three in the fouth, two in the fifth, and three in the sixth to seal the win. Josh Dow had two doubles, a single and three RBis for Central Maine. Tyler Lewis added two singles
