Morning Sentinel Staff
WINSLOW -- James Varney had three goals and two assists to lead the Messalonskee High School hockey team past Winslow 12-0 in an Eastern B game Wednesday night.
Jake Dexter also scored three goals for Messalonskee (11-2-0). Travis St. Pierre, Kalib Bernatchez and Chase Cunningham each scored two goals as well.
Sam Dexter had a goal and four assists for the victors as well.
Cam Tibbetts had 42 saves for Winslow (0-13-1).
John Bapst 5, Skowhegan 1: Jacob Fletcher scored two goals and added an assist to lead the Crusaders to the victory at Sukee Arena.
Alex Lafrance, Jonathan Cheff and Geoff Gilbert also scored for John Bapst (6-6-1).
Chase Nelson scored the lone goal and Anthony Paul had the assist for Skowhegan (4-7-2).
Girls basketball
Rangeley 55, Pine Tree 20: Seve Deery-Deraps scored a game-high 18 points and Jenney Abbott finished with a double-double to lead the visiting Lakers.
Abbott had 14 points and 11 rebounds for Rangeley (13-1). Taylor Esty chipped in with eight points as well.
Beckie McGuire led Pine Tree (4-10) with 10 points.
Boys basketball
Rangeley 51, Pine Tree Academy 39: Kyle Haley scored 22 points as the Lakers cruised to a win.
Eric White added 17 points for Rangeley (5-8).
Christian Alisha had 18 points, while Zach Wilday had 14 for Pine Tree (2-11).
