WEST HARTFORD, Conn. — Mark Nwakamma scored 23 points, had eight assists and grabbed seven rebounds to lead Hartford to a 68-61 win over Maine on Wednesday.

Yolonzo Moore II finished with 16 points and Evan Cooper added 13 for the Hawks (10-6, 3-0 America East Conference), who have won three straight games.

Hartford never trailed in the contest, but did not pull away from the Black Bears until late. Maine guard Justin Edwards converted two free throws to cut the deficit to 57-55 with 3:21 left in the second half.

The Hawks answered with a 6-0 run, capped by Moore’s two free throws to pushed their lead to eight points with 1:19 remaining. Moore, who made four 3-pointers in the game, scored four points during the spurt.

Edwards and Jon Mesghna each scored 17 points for the Black Bears (8-8, 2-1), who had their four-game winning streak snapped.

UM-Farmington 87, Maine Maritime Academy 52: Maranacook graduate Ben Johnson scored 25 points and grabbed 11 rebounds as the Beavers won Tuesday in Farmington.

Yusuf Iman and junior Garrett Clemmer each added 13 points for UMF (9-3, 5-1 in the conference).

Husson 87, Thomas 67: Eric Modica and Phil Leighton each had 14 points as the Eagles beat the Terriers in a North Atlantic Conference game Tuesday in Waterville.

Franklin Salvador had 16 points for Thomas.

Women’s basketball

UM-Farmington 56, Maine Maritime Academy 43: Senior Kenni Norton of Strong scored 15 points as the Beavers beat the Mariners on Tuesday in Farmington.

Lindsay Ranquist added nine points for UMF (4-8, 4-3 in the North Atlantic Conference).

Men’s hockey

Southern Maine 5, Colby 3: Troy Thibodeau scored at 9:51 of the third period to give the Huskies the lead in their win over the Mules in Waterville.

Brendan Bourgea, Robert McCormick and Brendan Cosgrove all scored for Colby (3-10-0).
