Mules set to face Panthers

Morning Sentinel Staff

WATERVILLE -- The Colby College women's basketball team heads into the New England Small College Athletic Conference playoffs as the No. 2 seed for the second straight season. And the Mules have nearly the same record as they did last season.

Colby host Middlebury College at 3 p.m. Saturday.

The Mules are 20-4 after going 21-3 in the regular season a year ago. Colby lost to Amherst in the NESCAC title game last season and earned the program's first-ever trip to the NCAA Division III tournament.

Colby is led by senior tri-captain Jules Kowalski, who became the 14th player in team history to surpass 1,000 points in the regular season finale. She now has 1,011 points and 727 rebounds in her career. She is third in the conference this season with 12.1 points and 7.9 rebounds per game.

Cony High School graduate Rachael Mack is also average 12.1 points per game for the Mules.

The Panthers, meanwhile, finished 15-8 overall. Middlebury is led by Lauren Sanchez, who is averaging 12.7 points.

Colby announced Friday that students would be able to get into the game for free with a student identification. Tickets prices are $3 for adults and $1 for other students. Children under 12 are admitted free. The doors at Colby's Wadsworth Gymnasium open at 2 p.m. and there is no pre-sale of tickets.
