GREENWOOD — For the second time in as many days, University of Maine at Farmington freshman Maria Bjoerk captured an individual first place — this time, winning Sunday’s USCSA Thompson Division giant slalom at the Mount Abram Ski Area.

Alex Rose matched the feat in the men’s GS, leading the Beavers to a first-place team finish.

Rose posted a combined time of 1 minute, 54.16 seconds, besting his nearest “A” competitor by seven seconds. Josh Cooley finished ninth among “A” racers with a time of 2:05.49

Those times allowed the UMaine-Farmington men to win the team event with a total time of 6:05.69, finishing ahead of WPI (6:08.55), Tufts (6:11.23), Boston University (6:28.03), and UMaine (7:50.01).

Women’s basketball

Presque Isle 75, Thomas 71: Emily Pelletier hit the go-ahead basket with 11 seconds left to lead the Owls to the win at the Star City Classic in Presque Isle. Megan Pelletier paced Thomas with 22 points while Ashleigh Gagne scored 14, Katie McAllister 12 and Emilee Reynolds 11. Olivia McNally and Amanda Hotham scored 15 points each for the owls. Presque is 4-9, Thomas is 3-10.

Women’s hockey

Boston University 4, Maine 2: The Blacks Bears fell to the Terriers in Hockey East action in Orono. Brittany Huneke and Jennifer More scored for Maine (3-17-1, 1-10-1 in Hockey East). Boston University is 14-3-3, 9-2-1.
