WATERVILLE — Thomas College came back from an eight-point halftime deficit to defeat Green Mountain College 87-78 in a North Atlantic Conference men’s basketball game Saturday.

Jared DeVaughn finished with a game-high 20 points and seven rebounds for the Terriers (8-8, 5-7). All the starters finished in double figures with Levi Barnes scoring 15, Franklin Salvador with 13, Marquis Pollard 11 and Stanley Greene Jr. 10.

Green Mountain College (3-15, 2-10) was led by Carnelious Green with a game-high 24 points.

Stony Brook 79, Maine 69: Despite seven 3-pointers from Zarko Valjarevic, the Black Bears lost an America East game in Stony Brook, N.Y.

Eric McAlister scored 22 points for Stony Brook (15-5, 6-1).

Valjarevic finished with 21 points for Maine (8-12, 3-4) while Justin Edwards added 17 points, 12 rebounds and five assists.

Bowdoin 63, Colby 49: Andrew Madlinger had 11 of his game-high 18 points to lead the Polard Bears to the New England Small College Athletic Conference win in Waterville.

Bryan Hurley added 12 points and eight assists for Bowdoin (11-6, 3-3).

Danny Chase scored a team-high 14 points for Colby (6-12, 2-4). Gordon Fischer added 12 points while Shane Rogers chipped in with eight points and seven assists.

Women’s basketball

Maine 67, Stony Brook 51: The Black Bears had four scorers in double figures in an America East upset in Orono.

Liz Wood led the offense with 12 points, nine rebounds, five assists and four steals for Maine (2-18, 1-6). Danielle Walczak added 12 points and 10 rebounds while Ashleigh Roberts had 14 points, including going 8 for 8 from the free throw line to seal the win. Corinne Wellington chipped in with 12 points and nine rebounds.

Stony Brook (11-9, 3-4) was led by Dani Klupenger with 14 points.

Thomas 72, Green Mountain 68: Winslow graduate Megan Pelletier scored 25 points to lead the Terriers to the NAC win in Waterville.

Messalonskee graduate Elizabeth Goodall added 16 points off the bench for Thomas (5-11, 4-7).

Chelsea Paul also scored 25 points for the Eagles (3-14, 1-11).

Bowdoin 82, Colby 71: Kaitlin Donahue scored a game-high 28 points and added six rebounds and four assists to lead the Polar Bears to the NESCAC win in Waterville.

Shannon Brady added 16 points, seven rebounds and five blocked shots for Bowdoin (10-8, 2-4).

Brooke Chandor led Colby (7-11, 1-5) with 26 points, including six 3-pointers, and also had seven rebounds. Diana Manduca added 15 points, five assists and three steals while Hall-Dale graduate Carylanne Wolfington chipped in 11 points.

Castleton State 61, UMaine-Farmington 45: The Spartans took advantage of 32 turnovers to earn the NAC win in Farmington.

Jade Desroches finished with 16 points to lead the Spartans (18-1, 11-1).

Mt. Abram graduate Kenni Norton led the Beavers (6-12, 6-6) with 18 points while Ayla Allen came off the bench to score nine. Messalonskee graduate Holly Oliver added six rebounds.

Vermont Tech 44, UMaine-Augusta 37: Kelly Vellek scored 28 points to lead Vermont Tech to the Yankee Small College Conference win in Portland.

Paige Wells added seven points to Vermont Tech (7-10, 4-4).

UMA (10-10, 6-6) was led by Arreonte Lee with 26 points while Haley Madore added eight.

Women’s hockey

Maine 1, Connecticut 1: Waterville graduate Katy Massey scored her fourth goal of the season as the Black Bears earned an America East tie in Storrs, Conn.

UConn (3-19-3, 1-10-1) struck first with a goal by Emily Snodgrass. Maine (4-17-3, 1-10-2) answered when Massey beat goalie Elaine Chuli at 2:43 of the second period. Missy Denk and Kayle Kaluzny assisted on the goal.

Brittany Ott made 16 saves for the Black Bears while Elaine Chuli stopped 44 shots for the Huskies.

Trinity 1, Colby 0: Emma Tani scored her sixth goal of the season to lift the Bantams to the NESCAC win in Waterville.

Alexa Pujol made 23 saves for Trinity (9-4-4, 4-3-3), raising her goals against average to 1.34 and her save percentage to .955.

Brianne Wheeler stopped 30 shots for Colby (6-12-0, 2-10-0).

Skiing

Alpine: Marc Massie finished 11th in the slalom for the Colby men and Paige Whistler was 20th for the women.

Massie had times of 43.81 and 43.29 for a two-run total time of 1:27.10. Matt McKenna was 23rd in 1:30.29 to help the Mules finish in a tie for seventh place.

Whistler had a two-run time of 1:33.82. Destrey Enders was 29th in 1:37.81 and Jeanne Barthold 32nd in 1:38.11 for the ninth-place Mules.

Nordic: Jake Barton finished 16th for Colby in the men’s 10-kilometer classical event in 26:36.5. The Mules finished 11th. For the women, Molly Susla was 35th in 19:31.5 in the 5K classical for the 10th-place Mules.

Also Saturday: Winslow grad Donald Clark was second in the shot put with a throw of 53 feet, 5.75 inches as the Maine men’s indoor track and field team was sixth out of 13 teams.
