WATERVILLE — The Morning Sentinel building, which has been for sale since March 2012, was sold Thursday morning to a local doctor.
Lisa DeSisto, CEO of the Sentinel’s parent company, MaineToday Media, said the company signed a five-year lease-back agreement with the buyer. MTM also owns the Kennebec Journal in Augusta and the Portland Press Herald.
By late October, the Morning Sentinel staff will have consolidated to the first floor of the two-story building at 31 Front St.
The doctor will use the second floor of the 13,576-square-foot building for a family practice, DeSisto said.
DeSisto declined to release the name of the doctor or the sale price until it is released as a public record. She said the sale will allow the paper to remain downtown.
“It allows us to still have a visible presence in the community,” she said.
The Morning Sentinel moved to Front Street March 15, 1997, from 25 Silver St.
The property is assessed at $1,246,400.
